A COMICS shop employee introduced to the store's "rape room" during her induction was fired after publicly complaining about it.
Jennifer Williams claims Harrison's Comics in Massachusetts sacked her after she wrote on Twitter that the store's manager gave her a tour and described the back room as a "rape room".
"Fyi, Harrison's Comics and Collectibles in Salem MA has a "rape room", dubbed such by the owner's friend Julian who is acting as manager," she wrote.
However the avid comics fan and writer says she was dismissed two days after going public.
"On Sunday I spoke to the owner about my concerns. I was off yesterday. Today I was fired," she wrote.
The incident has caused outrage on social media, with dozens of people throwing their support behind Ms Williams.
The media attention prompted the store's owner, Larry Harrison, to issue a statement on Facebook denying the allegations.
"The individual making the accusations, Ms. Williams, was terminated for documented, performance-based reasons only," he wrote.
He claims the term "rape room" originated when a trainee jokingly described the "statue room" as a "stat rape room".
"This was the first and last time "a rape room" was ever mentioned in Harrison's until Ms. Williams' took to social media and we were put in the position of having to defend ourselves," Mr Harrison wrote.
