AUSTRALIA'S sports doping scandal has claimed its first victim, with Rabbitohs reserve grader Curtis Johnston stood down following an allegation of illicit performance enhancing drug (PED) use.

Yet to make his NRL debut, the 23-year-old winger has spent the past three seasons with NSW Cup feeder club North Sydney Bears.

He was suspended from training and all club activities after a third party contacted the club with information relating to steroid and peptide use.

There were also text messages released from Johnston's mobile phone, in which he boasted about using PEDs.

NSWRL boss Geoff Carr last night confirmed the player had not returned a positive drugs test.
